North Carolina Fire Chief on Indefinite Sick Leave

Dec. 28, 2005
The Carrboro fire chief was charged this past weekend with driving while impaired.

A Carrboro fire chief accused of making harassing phone calls and driving while impaired is now on indefinite sick leave.

Fire Chief Rodney Murray was arrested this weekend, accused by police of driving off and eluding officers. His car was later found in a ditch.

Murray, 57, is a career fireman, with 25 years of experience in Chapel Hill and 10 years in Carrboro. He built a reputation as a solid fire chief.

Deputy Chief Travis Crabtree has taken over while Murray is on leave.

Carrboro officials are investigating. There has been no comment from Murray or Carrboro town officials.
