Family Escapes From Colorado House Fire

Dec. 22, 2005
Firefighters rescued the stranded residents from a balcony.

Emergency crews spent Wednesday morning mopping up a house fire in Cherry Creek North.

The family living in the home woke up at about 5:14 a.m. to a blaring smoke detector and smoke on the back porch. When firefighters arrived three minutes later, they found a lot of flames coming out of the house, located near 5th and Milwaukee Street.

Firefighters found a 14-year-old boy outside in the front yard, but his parents were trapped on the balcony until firefighters got them down with ladders.

No one was injured.

Firefighters say there is significant smoke and fire damage to the home, especially in the upper stories in the back of the house.

There's no word yet on what may have caused the blaze.
