Nebraska Firefighter Suffers Fatal Heart Attack After House Fire

Around 2 A.M., Soderquist suffered a heart attack while back at the fire station and was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital where he was unable to be revived.

A 64-year-old volunteer firefighter died of a heart attack at the fire station after battling an early-morning house fire in Axtell, Neb. on Dec. 1.

Leo Soderquist, a 36-year veteran of Axtell Fire and Rescue, responded to a house fire just after midnight on Friday. The fire damaged the attic and living room.

Around 2 A.M., Soderquist suffered a heart attack while back at the fire station and was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital where he was unable to be revived.

Later that morning, firefighters returned to the scene when the fire rekindled.
