Virginia Deputy Chief Becomes Arkansas Fire Chief

City of Richmond Deputy Fire Chief Don Horton has accepted the position of Fire Chief for Pine Bluff, Arkansas.

City of Richmond Deputy Fire Chief Don Horton has accepted the position of Fire Chief for Pine Bluff, Arkansas.

Chief Horton joined Richmond Fire and Emergency Services in March 1980,was promoted to Lieutenant in May 1987,then became Captain in 1990.

Officials said he was instrumental in creating the Office of Support Services and serving as the department's first official PIO.

While still a Captain he was given the responsibility of leading the Fire Prevention Division while acting in the role as Fire Marshal.

Horton was promoted to Battalion Chief then Division Chief where he has since served in both adminstrative and operations branches of the department.

Richmond Fire Department is currently conducting a nationwide search to fill this position.

Richmond Officials say they wish Horton the best in his new role as Chief and that he will be greatly missed.

Horton is scheduled to be sworn in as Pine Bluff Chief on November 30,2007.
