Vermont Town Gets New Firehouse

Volunteer firefighters in Johnson unloaded their gear into a new building over the weekend, more than a year after a fire destroyed their old headquarters.

The new building sits in the same location as the former structure. It cost about $1.1 million and took eight months to build.

"It's been a long time coming," said Johnson Fire Department Chief Gordon Smith. "You can tell by the mood, we're all excited. It's pretty emotional."

Firefighters plan an open house in May so local residents can tour the building.
