A fire truck returning from a call ran off a Harris County road Saturday and crashed into a tree, killing the driver.

Firefighter Kevin Joe Foster, 41, was traveling on Warm Springs Road near Ellerslie, Ga., when he swerved off the road, over-corrected and drove head-on into the tree, the Georgia State Patrol said.

The fire truck was carrying 2,000 gallons of water and split in half when it hit the tree.

Witnesses said the firefighter was driving no faster than 35 mph.

The State Patrol said it was not clear why Foster swerved off the road.
