One Dead in Georgia House Fire

March 1, 2007
Firefighters said the search for the victim was hampered by the amount of items stored in the home's basement.

A DeKalb County man died Tuesday in a stubborn, smoky fire at his home.

Three other residents of the house at 4296 Tucker North Court escaped when the fire broke out.

But they told firefighters they never saw the victim get out of the burning home.

The blaze started just after 9:30 a.m.

By noon firefighters said the fire was still smoldering and producing heavy smoke throughout the house.

Just after 12:15 p.m. firefighters found the body of the victim inside the home.

They said the search for the victim was hampered by the amount of items stored in the home's basement.

Those items kept re-igniting throughout the morning, according to Fire Department officials.

At least one other resident of the home was transported from the scene by ambulance.

Fire officials are investigating the possibility a candle caused the fire.
