SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Two state charges of enticing a minor over the Internet were dropped Thursday against a former firefighter after he was indicted by a federal grand jury.

Dennis Steadman, 54, had faced the two state counts, but those were dropped after the indictment was delivered by the grand jury on Wednesday, said Nancy Volmer, spokeswoman for the Utah Administrative Office of the Courts.

Steadman was arrested Feb. 16 during an undercover operation after arranging to meet a 13-year-old girl, who was actually an undercover police officer with the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

The grand jury returned one count of coercion and enticement of a minor to engage in unlawful sexual activity, which carries a potential 30-year prison term.
