(New York-WABC, , 2005) -- The January fire that forced six Bronx firefighters to jump out an apartment window, took two lives and became a mandate to implement change.

By pushing the FDNY into a massive safety campaign.

It's now ready to give firefighters a new rope escape system.

What's unique is it's designed by firefighters who rock-climb. And, it uses a metal hook and 50 foot ropes made of bulletproof Kevlar.

The department is spending $11 million to supply every firefighter with the new gear.
