An early morning fire Thursday destroyed Jones Farm Bar B Q at 103 Church Street in Byron, the fire chief says.

Byron Fire Chief James Keys said he was already in the fire truck about to head to Leisure Pool off Woodland Drive to fill it up for the summer when the fire call came in at about 9:40 a.m.

Within in minutes, Keys said, he was on scene, and about seven other volunteer firefighters joined him in battling the blaze.

The fire, which destroyed the restaurant, was put out within about 15 minutes, he said.

"It gutted it pretty good," Keys said.

The fire was believed to have started in the kitchen, and the cause is not known, Keys said.

Byron police Lt. Sean Hodges said, "Right now, we're trying to determine the cause of it."

The state fire marshal's office is investigating, Keys said.

No one was injured in the fire, he said.

A.R. Jones, the restaurant's owner, could not be reached for comment Thursday.

Jones was the only person in the restaurant, which is open Thursday through Saturday, Keys said.

The restaurant is located near the city's library.
