Rutherford County, Tennessee Volunteer Firefighter Accused of Causing Accident

There was a serious accident in Rutherford County Thursday morning, and police say a volunteer firefighter caused it.
Rutherford County, TN -- There was a serious accident in Rutherford County Thursday morning, and police say a volunteer firefighter caused it.

A mother and her 4-year-old child were inside their white SUV when a Red Jeep Cherokee crossed over the center lane and hit them head on.

The driver of the SUV, Melissa Thompson, went to the hospital with a fractured pelvis. Her 4-year-old son Cody was not hurt.

The driver of the Jeep was a volunteer firefighter who was rushing to get to the Almaville Fire Hall to answer a fire call.

Nina Bishop was the volunteer firefighter.

She was airlifted to the hospital with a possible head injury and an open cut on her hand.
