Hollywood Fire Chief Edward J. Moran is leaving to head the town of Palm Beach's fire department.

Moran's last day is Jan. 21.

''I have enjoyed the privilege and honor of serving the citizens and visitors of Hollywood in every level of responsibility from firefighter paramedic to fire chief, working side by side with the finest team of professionals I have come to know as brother and sister firefighters,'' Moran wrote in a Dec. 12 letter to Hollywood City Manager Cameron Benson.

He's a 30-year veteran of the Hollywood department.

From October 1999 to November 2000, Moran worked as the city's interim director of development administration.

Moran had served as interim fire chief since September 2002. Benson named Moran as the city's fire chief on July 21, 2003.

''Chief Moran has provided over 30 years of dedicated service to our city,'' Benson wrote in a Dec. 13 letter to the mayor and commissioners. ``On behalf of the city of Hollywood, I wish Chief Moran the best of luck in his future endeavors.''

Moran wrote that the decision to leave was ``extremely difficult.''

''I will remain dedicated and committed to the city of Hollywood throughout my final days of service,'' he said.
