TORONTO (CP) -- Fire crews were mopping up Sunday night in the suburb of Thornhill after battling a large blaze sparked when a tanker truck overturned and burst into flames, news reports said.

There were no reports of injuries, and power was restored to the area late Sunday, hours after it was knocked out by the afternoon accident, 680 News reported.

The fire sent thick clouds of black smoke into the air, its plumes visible all the way from downtown Toronto, officials said.

Fire trucks were reportedly called in from Toronto and Mississauga to help battle the blaze, which also snarled local traffic.

Eyewitnesses said the driver was trying to make a left turn before his rig flipped on its side.

Meanwhile, CFTO News was citing unconfirmed reports that the tanker was carrying about 46,000 litres of gasoline.

No other details were immediately available.
