Texas Houseboat Catches Fire; Causes Hazmat Situation

Firefighters responded to a houseboat fire at Emerald Point on Lake Travis. The situation was further complicated by a 300 gallon fuel leak.
Firefighters responded to a houseboat fire at Emerald Point on Lake Travis Wednesday. Nobody was hurt.

When authorities arrived around 6:30 p.m., there wasn't much they could do. The two-story houseboat was engulfed in flames.

A personal water craft was also destroyed.

The boat is now 90-percent under water.

Hazardous Materials crews plan to work overnight to cleanup a 300 gallon fuel leak caused by the fire.

"Unfortunately, the fuel was what was the biggest problem. That just kept burning and obviously that doesn't go out too easily until we got some foam involved, and that helped suppress it," Eric Carlson of the Hudson Bend Fire Department said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
