A woman in her 20s suffered second degree burns over more than half her body early Wednesday morning after her apartment caught on fire.

She was found hiding in her closet -- wrapped in blankets.

''(Fire Rescue) checked in the closet, thank God, and found her there,'' said Miami Beach Fire Rescue Chief Edward Del Favero. ``It was unusual.''

A passerby who saw flames coming out of the window of the apartment on the 1000 block of Eighth Street called the fire department shortly after 5 a.m.

''There were a couple of passerbys who saw the fire,'' said Del Favero. ''They started knocking on doors to wake people up.'' Officials say the fire alarm in the two-story building did not go off.

Firefighters arrived at 5:12 a.m and kept the fire from spreading to other apartments. There were no other injuries and residents were allowed to return to their homes.
