AFFTON, Mo. (AP) -- Fire killed two young sisters who apparently were left at home with two siblings and no adult supervision, authorities said.

The fire was accidental and began in the home's master bedroom, Affton Fire Protection District Chief Jerry Buehne said. The exact cause remained under investigation, said Mason Keller, a St. Louis County police spokesman.

Neighbors in the St. Louis suburb said the dead girls were ages 3 and 4. Their older sisters, ages 14 and 5, escaped from the blaze late Saturday morning.

The two younger girls apparently were trapped inside, and Buehne said neither parent was home.

Neighbor Katie Hillemeyer said the older girl often babysat her younger sisters.
