A Chesterfield Fire Department firefighter in South Carolina collapsed at a fire scene and died of the heart attack later at the Chesterfield General Hospital Thursday, April 22.
Lt. Bruce Rogers, 56, was moving toward the pumper at the scene of a multi-alarm fire that destroyed the town community center, when he collapsed. Paramedics on the scene worked on Rogers and transported him to the hospital where he was pronounce dead, according to Chaplain and Firefighter Phillip Caulder.
Lt. Rogers, a 28-year veteran, was currently the secretary of the department. He worked for Crown Cork and Seal, but had originally moved to Chesterfield to teach after graduating from college. He was a deacon in the Chesterfield Baptist Church. He leaves behind his wife Kathy and adult son Paul.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Miller, Rivers, Caulder Funeral Home in the town of Chesterfield. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday, April 24 from 6-8 p.m. The funeral home is located at 318 E. Main St. in downtown Chesterfield.
The funeral will be held at the Chesterfield Baptist Church at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 25. Interment will be at St. John Freewill Baptist Cemetery.
