UNION CITY - City Fire Official Louis Miranda was arrested Sunday and charged with aggravated assault in connection with the stabbing of his estranged wife's boyfriend, police said.

The incident happened at about 12:30 a.m. at Miranda's 21st Street home, police said. The inspector's wife, Claudia Miranda, 27, who now lives in North Bergen, had come to the house, along with her boyfriend, Antonio Velez, a 19-year-old Bogota resident.

According to Velez, the pair had gone to the house to drop off the Mirandas' two daughters, ages 6 and 7.
