Three major fires have ripped through three areas of New York City overnight. In Brooklyn, at least a dozen people have been left homeless after two fires.

(New York-WABC, January 27, 2004) -- Three major fires have ripped through three areas of New York City overnight. In Brooklyn, at least a dozen people have been left homeless after two fires.

On Brooklyn Avenue, between Avenues I and J, firefighters have gotten a handle on one fire. But now they have grim task of going back inside of this house and searching for a 47-year-old woman. She is believed to be inside the home and apparently did not make it out alive. This fire started at about 1:15 a.m. this morning in a three-story home. Firefighters say it was a fierce fire due to the fact that this a wood home.

Five people were inside the house at the time of the fire. Three people, a woman and a 19-year-old child were in the front of the house and they were able to make it on the roof of the porch and they had to be rescued from the building.
