LOS ANGELES (AP) -- A pickup truck struck a van carrying a group of developmentally disabled adults Wednesday, with both skidding into a stopped police car. One person died and 15 were hurt, police said.

Two of the injured were airlifted to a hospital in critical condition, Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey said. The 13 others suffered serious to minor injuries, including two police officers treated for back and neck pain.

One person was briefly trapped in the van after it flipped onto its side, Humphrey said.

The identity of the person who died in the crash, in Los Angeles' San Fernando Valley section, was not immediately available.

Firefighters tried to comfort and treat the injured among the van's passengers, but the effort was complicated by their disabilities, Humphrey said.

``The exact extent of their injuries is a bit challenging to ascertain,'' Humphrey said.
