Seven Alabama Firefighters Injured When Car Rams Into Fire Truck

FLORENCE, Ala. (AP) -- A Killen man turned his truck around and rammed into fire department vehicles trying to clear storm debris from U.S. 72., injuring seven firefighters.

The Elgin Volunteer Fire Department members were taken to Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital after the 2:18 a.m. crash Monday. Kenneth Kelso, Carson Zells, Mike White, Troy Brown, Curt Butler, Joel Glover and Wayne Davis suffered injuries that included broken bones.

State troopers said Ernest W. Trousdale, 42, who was driving the truck, suffered a head injury. A hospital spokeswoman said Tuesday that no information on Trousdale was available.

An emergency worker said troopers expect to file charges. Authorities said charges could range from reckless driving to attempted murder. Family members told authorities that Trousdale has a history of mental problems.
