Five Elgin volunteer firefighters are recovering from injuries after they were run over last night.

It happened on U.S. 72, about 25 miles east of Florence. The firefighters were changing a tire on the truck, after having helped with storm damage. A man drove past then put his car in reverse and backed into their truck, then ran all five of them over. State troopers arrested that man, Ernest Prousdale. Troopers say he has a mental condition, and is being treated at ECM Hospital. No word yet, if he will face charges.

Firefighters Kenneth Kelso, Carson Zells, Mike White, Troy Brown, and Kirk Butler were all injured. As of Monday afternoon, Kelso and Zells were being treated in the emergency department for observation, Brown was admitted to the hospital and listed in good condition, and Butler and White had both been treated and released.
