A Fairfax County, Virginia firefighter sustained a head injury while at the scene of a fire emergency in McLean on Tuesday, July 29.
Dan Schmidt, a spokesman for the Fairfax County Fire & Rescue Department, said that the 6-year veteran is in serious but stable condition. He works at the McLean Fire & Rescue Station 1.
Sources reported that the firefighter, an apparatus technician and driver, suffered a head injury while pulling the hose from the rear of the fire engine. The department was reportedly responding to a fire at the Tuckahoe Recreation Club on Great Falls St.
Paramedics already on the scene began medical treatment on the firefighter before he was immediately transported to a local hospital.
