The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, after a lawsuit filed by the New York Times, released transcripts of recorded radio and telephone conversations between Port Authority police and between PA police and civilians as the tragedy of the World Trade Center attack and collapse, unfolded.

Firehouse.com has reproduced here some of the transcripts in order to illustrate the situation as they faced it that day, September 11, 2001.

These are by no means all of the recordings which are spread through a number of responsibilities the Port Authority has, such as the subway, airport and bridge commands they protect. There were nearly 100 Port Authority and civilian radio channels and telephone lines that were recorded.

Chaos and panic, cool headedness and heroism are all represented in these pages.
