Pennsylvania Firefighter Dies From Apparent Heart Attack During Annual Parade

A veteran firefighter died on Saturday, June 14, from an apparent heart attack. Fire Police Officer Donald Shreckengast, 55, collapsed during the annual Bellefonte Cruise Parade where he was directing traffic. He died later that night at Centre Community Hospital.

A volunteer member of the Logan Fire Company of the Bellefonte Fire Department for the past 25 years, Schreckengast was also member of the Central District Volunteer Firemen's Association and the Citizens Hook and Ladder Company of Milesburg.

A longtime companion, Sandra Solt, his father Warren Schreckengast and a twin brother, Ronald, survives Schreckengast.

The funeral will be held at the Wetzler Funeral Home, located on 208 North Spring Street, in Bellefonte, PA. The family has requested that memorials be directed to the Logan Fire Company of Bellefonte or to the Citizens Hook and Ladder Fire Company of Milesburg in lieu of flowers.
