LIMA, Ohio (AP) -- Three children died in a fire that destroyed their home, officials said.

The bodies of 13-year-old Crystal Bryant, 5-year-old Thomas Terry and a 2-year-old girl, Ny'Kahla Terry, were found upstairs at the home, which was destroyed, said Lima Fire Department Platoon Chief Greg Kirkendall.

Three other people inside the home got out, Kirkendall said. He did not know if they suffered any injuries in the fire Thursday night.

Fire officials have not determined the cause of the fire, which started about 7:45 p.m. and took about an hour to put out, Kirkendall said.

Lima is about 70 miles south of Toledo.

The fire had burned undetected for quite awhile and spread quickly once the flames broke through the ceiling, said assistant fire Chief Rick Robinson. Smoke detectors inside the two-story house were not working, he said.

The two youngest victims lived in the house. Their mother, Natalia Baraby, was sleeping on the couch and was alerted to the fire by another of her children, a 3-year-old son, Robinson said.

Baraby's clothes caught fire, and she and the 3-year-old ran from the house. A family friend was also inside the home but escaped unharmed, Robinson said.

The 3-year-old was hospitalized overnight with smoke inhalation and has been released. Baraby was treated and released.
