A Nipissing Township volunteer firefighter died Tuesday morning following a fire truck crash near Powassan in Ontario, Canada, according to The North Bay Nugget
The unidentified firefighter was responding to a fire call at approximately 9:30 a.m. when the apparatus veered off of Highway 534 and into a ditch.
Firefighters around the province are morning their comrade's death.
"We're the good guys. We're here to help. We're suppose to come back, but today we lost a guy from a rich family of firefighting," Powassan Volunteer Firefighter Davey Meloy told the newspaper.
"This tragedy will be felt throughout the entire fraternity and throughout Canada. If this is a public service expect attendance from miles."
The cause of the crash is currently being investigated.
