Nicholas County is without a fire department after all of its members resigned Thursday night over a disagreement with the County Fire Board.

The 13 firefighters demanded the board's members to step down and resigned after they refused to, according to WTVQ.

Following the meeting, all but two of the board's member decided to quit.

"We're torn because we don't wanna leave the county uncovered, but the board won't work with us," Former Assistant Fire Chief Matt Hughes told the news station.

The Carlisle City Fire Department is currently covering the county, which is expected to discuss a long-term solution on Friday.
