Tulsa Firefighters Rescue Woman From Apartment Fire

Firefighters John Stapleton, Rob Bunch, Jacob Younger and Larry Jackson rescued the woman.

Firefighters carried an unconscious woman from her burning apartment early Tuesday, fire officials said.

A search and rescue team found the woman shortly before 2 a.m. on the floor of her first-floor apartment at Bradford Creek Apartments, 3163 S. 108th E. Ave., a Fire Department report says. The woman reportedly was not breathing and had a weak pulse.

The rescue team -- composed of firefighters John Stapleton, Rob Bunch, Jacob Younger and Larry Jackson -- carried her from the unit and administered CPR, according to the report.

She was breathing on her own by the time medics took her to a hospital, and she is expected to survive.

"I believe these men, truly, saved a life this morning," District Fire Chief Ronnie Cole said in an email to fellow Fire Department officials later Tuesday.

Fire Department spokesman Stan May said officials were "pretty impressed with their actions."

Six families were displaced by the fire, which started in the woman's apartment and spread to an upstairs unit, May said. The Red Cross was assisting the families.

The two units had fire damage and the other four units had smoke damage, according to May and the report.

The fire caused about $40,000 in damage, firefighters estimated.

A cause was not immediately determined, May said.
