July 13--SAN BRUNO -- A 2-year-old child died and three adults were injured in a two-alarm house fire Friday morning, authorities said.

Firefighters responded to an 8:45 a.m. call reporting the blaze at a home in the 100 block of Lake Drive near Monterey Drive, south of Portola Highlands Park.

A 20-year-old woman suffered major injuries and was transported to a hospital, where she is in critical condition, officials said.

An elderly man also was hospitalized though details of his condition were not provided. A firefighter suffered injuries not considered life-threatening, authorities said.

Firefighters encountered heavy flames and smoke at the burning home and contained the fire within about 15 minutes, officials said.

Bay City News Service reported that the residents of the house are a couple in their 60s and longtime residents of the Lake Drive cul de sac, and the child is their grandchild, said the neighbor, who wouldn't give her full name.

Smoke was visible before fire trucks arrived on the scene, and three construction workers in a neighboring building helped people get out of the house, the woman said.
