Two Firefighters Hurt While Battling Detroit Blaze

Both firefighters were transported to the hospital for treatment, Detroit Fire Sgt. Grey Jackson said. One suffered smoke inhalation. Information on the second firefighter's injuries wasn't immediately available.

July 15--Two firefighters were injured battling a 3-alarm fire on Detroit's east side this morning.

Both firefighters were transported to the hospital for treatment, Detroit Fire Sgt. Grey Jackson said. One suffered smoke inhalation. Information on the second firefighter's injuries wasn't immediately available.

Firefighters responded to Mack and Eastlawn, near Chalmers, around 8:45 a.m. today to fight the blaze at a vacant commercial building, Jackson said.

The fire, which appears suspicious and is likely arson, was still burning at 11:45 a.m., he said.

More than 60 firefighters were called to help battle the blaze. Fire investigators are also on scene.
