Three people, including a fire inspector, suffered burns in an incident at or near the minor league baseball park in Lake Elsinore, but fire officials are still trying to nail down exactly what happened.

Just before 5 p.m., the Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department received a report of a vehicle on fire in the 500 block of South Diamond Drive near or at the home stadium of the Lake Elsinore Storm baseball team, said Melody Hendrickson, a spokeswoman for the Fire Department, in a news release.

One person, a civilian, suffered critical burns and was transported by helicopter to an undisclosed burn center, Hendrickson said. The other two, including the fire inspector, suffered minor burns and were taken to a hospital by ambulance for treatment.

The vehicle fire spread into nearby brush, scorching a quarter- to half-acre before firefighters contained it, Hendrickson said.

Cal Fire spokeswoman Jody Hagemann said that fireworks were involved, but that the cause of the fire has not been determined.
