Sept. 14, 2012
The boys were rescued by Coaldale firefighters, who had to rappel into the pit to retrieve them.

Two boys injured when they fell 75 to 100 feet into a stripping hole in Tamaqua Wednesday night are OK medically, Coaldale police said.

One of the boys sustained an ankle injury in the incident at 7:20 p.m., police said.

An officer said their names and ages would not be released because they are juveniles. However, police did say the two boys, plus two others they were walking with, were from the Tamaqua/Coaldale area.

Whether the boys will be cited is up to Tamaqua police, who said Thursday they are continuing to investigate the incident.

Coaldale police said they were initially dispatched to the incident, in an area called the Spring Dell pit, because it was unclear if the location was in Coaldale or Tamaqua.

The boys were rescued by Coaldale firefighters, who had to rappel into the pit to retrieve them. Lansford ambulance took them for medical treatment after they were rescued at about 8:30 p.m., police said.
