NORFOLK, Va. -- Two men were rescued by firefighters Friday morning after their boat capsized at Willoughby Spit near the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel.

Dispatchers said they received a call for the boat rescue shortly before 10 a.m. The men were on an 18-foot motor boat believed to have been recently purchased, but was older and started having trouble, said Capt. Mike Hicks, a Norfolk Fire-Rescue spokesman.

The boaters, both adults, were wearing life vests, but they were vests that were made for children, Hicks said.

One of the men, believed to be in his 60s, was taken to a hospital to be checked.

The Coast Guard and Hampton firefighters assisted at the scene, Hicks said.
