A Colorado Springs firefighter saved the life of a man Monday evening when he carried him out of a burning garage on the city's east side.

Capt. Anthony Cerrone said he couldn't release the condition of the man, who was taken to the hospital after the fire at 1059 Nolte Drive West, but believes there will be a "positive outcome."

The fire started about 7:30 p.m. and firefighters found two neighbors attempting to put out the blaze with garden hoses when they arrived. The neighbors told Cerrone about the man inside and he went into the burning garage and found the man sitting on a chair. Cerrone picked him up and carried him out of the garage.

The couple who lives in the home will be displaced for a couple of days, Cerrone said. Firefighters are still investigating the cause of the blaze.
