ANDERSON, Ind. -- Martin "Skip" Ockomon, who had charges of child molestation against him dropped for a second time earlier this week, was reinstated as a firefighter with the Anderson Fire Department during Thursday's Board of Public Safety meeting.
Ockomon, the brother of former mayor Kris Ockomon, has been on paid administrative leave since his arrest Nov. 29, 2011, on allegations he sexually abused three of his stepdaughters between 1986 and 1998.
Charges were dropped against Ockomon June 7 by special prosecutor Tami Napier, but were refiled earlier this month after a grand jury indictment. The charges were again dropped against Ockomon Sept. 17.
Ockomon's attorney, Bryan Williams, told the board there was nothing pending legally to keep Ockomon from returning to the department.
Fire Chief Phil Rogers asked the board to accept Ockomon's reinstatement so he could return to duty as soon as possible.
The board accepted the request unanimously. Rogers said Ockomon was scheduled to return to work today.
"I know he's eager to get back to work, and glad it's over," Rogers said after the meeting.
