TRUMBULL, Conn. -- Firefighters pulled an unconscious woman to safety from her burning Booth Hill Road home Tuesday afternoon, police said.

The 81-year-old woman, who was not immediately identified, had no pulse when she was taken from her house, but she was revived by EMTs and police and rushed to the hospital where she is currently receiving treatment, said Detective Sgt. Shawn Sember.

Sember praised the efforts of the first responders on the scene who saved the woman's life. He said Nichols Fire Chief John Plofkin Jr. and firefighters Konstantin Tartakovsky and Jason Seaman led the rescue effort. Police officer Jay Leos helped EMTs from Trumbull EMS revive the woman, Sember said.

The cause of the fire, which started on the first floor, is being investigated by the Trumbull fire marshal, with help from the state Fire Marshal's Office.

"When we arrived there was heavy smoke coming from the roof of the house," Plofkin said. "We located the fire on the first floor, extending to the second floor, and stretched a hose line. While a crew knocked down the fire, another group searched the house."

Plofkin said the woman was located and pulled to safety, where EMTs and police began treatment.

The fire began around 2:45 p.m. The house is located in the 600 block of Booth Hill Road between Pilgrim Lane and Strobel Road.

Along with the Nichols Fire Department, the Trumbull Center and Long Hill departments also responded. Mutual aid was provided by firefighters from Shelton and Monroe.
