Firefighters reported heavy smoke on the first level and fire on the second and third levels.

One city firefighter received minor injuries battling a three-alarm fire that broke out Thursday morning in a commercial building in the 1700 block of Fleet Street near Broadway in Fells Point.

According to Chief Kevin Cartwright, spokesman for the Baltimore City Fire Department, the fire was reported around 5:30 a.m. in a three-story, mid-block building with a liquor store on the first level. He said firefighters reported heavy smoke on the first level and fire on the second and third levels.

As of 7 a.m., Cartwright said, the fire has been extinguished on the second level and fire fighters were still working to put out the fire on the third level. The fire had not spread to other structures, he said.

Cartwright said fire fighters helped one civilian leave the building but he did not know that person's condition or whether that person needed medical assistance. One fire fighter suffered injuries that were not considered life threatening, according to Cartwright.
