A trailer full of potato chips burned to a crisp during an early morning fire on the Northwest side.
The pickup truck hauling a trailer full of Poore Brothers chips caught fire while driving down Twin Peaks Road just east of Interstate 10 a little after 5 a.m., said Capt. Adam Goldberg, spokesman for the Northwest Fire District. The driver pulled over and safely got out of the truck.
Fire crews arrived within four minutes and found the 24-foot trailer and it's $6,000 worth of potato chips blazing. The chips, destined for local grocery stores, were a total loss. Damage to the inventory, plus computer equipment and the trailer brought the estimated damage to $12,000, Goldberg said.
Traffic was impeded for almost an hour this morning because of the fire.
A mechanical failure with a trailer tire was the cause of the blaze.
