Two more Tulsa firefighters have returned to full duty after recovering from injuries sustained while fighting the Barnard Elementary School building fire.

Firefighters Joel Jones and Heath Tye join two others who returned to full duty last month.

Two other firefighters are on light duty and two more are still on injury leave while they are recovering.

The firefighters were injured in the massive fire Sept. 5 at the Barnard Elementary School building. Two explosions erupted from the chemistry lab shortly after crews arrived about 5 a.m., burning the eight firefighters.

Tulsa Public Schools leased the building, located at 2324 E. 17th St., to a charter high school it sponsors, the Tulsa School of Arts and Sciences, less than three weeks before the fire.

The explosions were caused by an increase in oxygen to fuel the fire, a backdraft, after firefighters entered the school's chemistry lab.
