An Estero battalion chief was fired after allegedly forgetting about a crew battling a fire earlier this summer.
Battalion Chief Jeannine Horton was in charge of crews from her own department as well as crews from other agencies during the July brush fire that shut down I-75, according to WBBH-TV.
According to an investigative report, the nine-year veteran left the scene before accounting for all resources, leaving a San Carlos Fire crew in the woods.
Horton reportedly admitted to leaving her post in order to give a member of the media a closer look at the damage.
"We have to know where everybody is at any moment in the event that something happens," Estero Assistant Fire Chief Mark Wahlig told the news station."It's an incredibly big responsibility."
Other incidents in which Horton allegedly disobeyed protocol were also listed by the report.
