A Halloween prank involving two dummies hanging over a bridge slowed traffic for miles on the 215 Freeway in Grand Terrace this morning.

The California Highway Patrol began receiving calls at 7:50 a.m. regarding the dummies, which were dressed in clothing and had Halloween masks on their faces.

"One was a clown mask and the other was a skeleton-type mask," said CHP Officer Scott Riley.

Riley said the first call indicated the dummies were hanging over the Washington Street bridge, but officers said they were actually at Newport Road.

The dummies were hanging by ropes that were tied to their clothing.

"They were about 20 feet over the side," Riley said. "They were hanging over the traffic lanes in the center divider."

The dummies weren't low enough to be hit by cars.

Officers searched the area but didn't find the people responsible for the prank.

"There was nobody there to catch," Riley said.

The prank backed up southbound traffic to the 10 Freeway and northbound lanes were also backed up several miles.

"It slowed down traffic quite a bit because of all the looky loos," he said.

Riley said he was on a motorcycle at the time, so he turned the dummies over to Grand Terrace firefighters.
