Accompanied by Pipers, OR Fire Chief Proposes in Exercise Class

Nov. 20, 2012
Colton Fire Chief Richard "Beau" Beaudoin admitted he was nervous as he marched into the club.

An exercise class in Oregon was interrupted by firefighters Monday morning.

There was no emergency, per se. But, they were there on a mission.

The Salem Firefighters pipes and drum corps paraded into the athletic club followed by a very anxious firefighter dressed in his Class A uniform.

Salem Firefighter Richard Beaudoin told a reporter at the Statesman Journal he was nervous as he marched into the club clutching a blue ring box in his hand.

“I’ve been in so many fires, but this scared me ten times more than any fire I’ve been in,” he admitted to reporters.

Watch proposal

Once inside, he climbed on stage where his girlfriend, Jennifer Fergus, had been demonstrating an exercise.

As he got down on one knee, Jennifer put her hand over her mouth. As she nodded yes, the crowd of pipers and exercisers cheered and applauded.

After watching the proposal, Beaudoin’s daughter, Courtney Beaudoin, told the reporter: "His life is firefighting, and her life is fitness. This brings the two together, and it’s very cute."
