Responding Va. Engine Crashes, Four Firefighters Hurt

A Bedford City Fire Department engine truck was en route to a brush fire when it overturned.

Dec. 01-- A Bedford City Fire Department engine truck was en route to a brush fire shortly before noon today when the vehicle overturned, according to a news release from Chief Brad Creasy.

Four firefighters were injured, including two who suffered serious injuries, in the single-vehicle wreck that occurred in the 1200 block of Peaks Street in Bedford.

Bedford spokeswoman Marci Stone said one injured firefighter was airlifted to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital and another was taken to Lynchburg in an ambulance.

The crew was traveling to a brush fire call in the 4100 block of Peaks Road (Virginia 43) in Bedford County.

The wreck is under investigation.
