Dec. 14--Lexington Fire Chief Keith Jackson released a letter Friday expressing condolences to the family of a pedestrian who was struck and killed by a fire engine.

Jackson's letter says the Division of Fire wanted to reach out "in word and support to all the families involved in this tragedy." It was released less than 24 hours after Lexington police released dozens of documents related to the case.

Late Thursday, police released documents that revealed who had the right of way when the accident occurred. Earlier, police and city officials had not said whether Lauren Roady was in the crosswalk or whether the pedestrian crossing signal indicated that it was safe to cross.

An accident report and diagram revealed that Roady had a "walk" signal when she was crossing South Broadway at 10:04 p.m. Saturday. At the same time, the Lexington Division of Fire's Engine 9, driven by Christopher Presley, was making a left turn from Main Street onto South Broadway.

On behalf of the Lexington Fire Department we want to express our sincere condolences to the family of Mrs. Lauren Roady. As firefighters we pledge to protect and serve the community as a core value of our mission. We know this has created a loss and we share the pain as a family. We are deeply concerned for her husband, parents, in-laws and extended family, as this tragic incident has shaken us all. On behalf of Firefighter Chris Presley we also want Mrs. Roady's family to know of his concern and sympathy in your loss. We know and understand that this incident will forever change the lives of all involved.
