Jan. 20--One man died in a townhouse fire in Eagan and two others were hospitalized after jumping out of a second-story window, authorities said.

Eagan police and fire were called to the blaze at 1527 Aspen Drive about 6:15 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, and saw heavy smoke in the area and the four-unit townhouse fully engulfed.

Officers found two men on the ground outside who told authorities they had jumped out of the window after being awakened to smoke and that they believed another man was trapped on the second floor of their unit.

After extinguishing the blaze, fire personnel found the man dead on the second floor.

The two other men were transported to Regions Hospital in St. Paul for treatment and evaluation, according to Eagan police. Their conditions were not immediately known.

No other injuries reported, police said.

A family of three was evacuated from one unit and a man was evacuated from the second unit. A third unit was vacant.

The origin of the fire is under investigation, police said.
