N.Y. Firefighter Killed, Another Burned in Floor Collapse

An Owego (N.Y.) firefighter was killed and another was badly injured when a floor collapsed during a house fire Monday night.

According the local central New York television station YNN.com, the fallen firefighter was Matthew Porcari and the injured firefighter is Daniel Gavin. Several other news agencies reported Porcari and Gavin as the individuals involved in the incident.

The house fire, which was reported at about 11 p.m. was in Newark Valley and the Owego Fire Department responded to the incident as mutual aid company, according to information reported by pressconnects.com.

By Tuesday morning, all that remained of the home was a smoldering foundation and debris. A truck and a camper were also involved in the fire, according to the pressconnect.com report.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Tioga County Sheriff’s Office.
