BRISTOL, Tenn. — Firefighters from several departments took a break from a banquet Saturday to combat a home fire near the Virginia state line off of Green Spring Road.

Officers with the 421 Area Emergency Service Fire Department were the first to arrive at 559 Painter Creek Road just after 7 p.m. The doublewide mobile home was fully engulfed in flames when they arrived, 421 Assistant Fire Chief Chad Vinton said.

"The fire had already breached the backside of the home,” Vinton said. “No one was home at the time of the fire. I think we can rule the home a total loss at this point."

Most of the responding fire departments, including 421, Hickory Tree, Avoca and Green Spring volun-teer units were attending Hickory Tree's 45th annual Fireman's Banquet at their headquarters near Bluff City when the call was received by Sullivan County central dispatch.

"They really knew when to call, when a bunch of us were together," said one firefighter at the scene.

A neighbor called in the fire alarm after seeing flames shooting from the roof of the home.

The Sullivan County Sheriff's Office also responded to blaze. Firefighters and deputies are still investi-gating the cause of the fire.
