Generator Fire Damages Calif. Supermarket

A firefighter suffered minor injuries after a generator fire damaged a mechanical room at a Safeway store Tuesday night.

Feb. 27--MORAGA -- Firefighters made quick work of a blaze in a mechanical room at a Safeway store Tuesday night.

One firefighter suffered a minor injury.

The fire was reported at 7:45 p.m. in a room in the rear of the store at 1355 Moraga Way. A statement from Moraga police said that a generator was the source of the fire.

The store's sprinkler system suppressed the fire, and firefighters were on the scene within three minutes to finish the job before flames could spread outside the room. Damage was estimated at about $10,000.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Store officials could not be reached for comment Wednesday morning.
