Santa Paula responders found about 20 partially burned counterfeit $20 bills in side a burning Dumpster.

March 26--Officers found burned counterfeit money inside a dumpster in Santa Paula Monday, officials said.

Police responded about 8:45 p.m. to reports of a dumpster fire in the 1300 block of East Main Street (map), according to the Santa Paula Police Department.

Responding officers found a blaze small enough to be put out using a fire extinguisher, authorities said. Investigators found about 20 partially burned counterfeit $20 bills inside the dumpster, police said.

The fake bills were collected as evidence by the Secret Service for further investigation, officials said.

One person, who moved the dumpster to keep it from spreading to a nearby building, was in the area when officers arrived on scene.

Local businesses are asked to pay special attention to the currency they accept for the next several weeks, police said.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call senior detective Ken Clark at 525-4474 ext. 277.
